We decided to include this video in because it shown how the
Classical Rome hospitality gradually developed into today's hospitality
industry. This video mainly shows about the differences and similarities of
Classical Rome hospitality and present hospitality service and facilities. The
similarities is that in the past there are services such as food and beverages,
massages, transportations and accommodations which were very similar to what we
have today. Unfortunately in the 12 century, there wasn’t Airlines, Cruises or
commercial/ business services. There were only limited areas where hospitare
(what it was called back then) could be served and mainly at home thus we agree
to the notion to a certain extend as things and value of hospitality changed
over the years it is still from both stranger, one provides service to another
and then become guest and then friends.
The differences is that in the Classical Rome people invited
guests to their home for services (non- profit), whereas in the present
hospitality, guest which are also known as customers pay for their service.
(Business oriented) In Classical Rome era, many form
of service was performed manually to perform the operation, this affect the
guest host relationship because in the Classical Rome it focus more on the
interaction between the host and the guest.
In today hospitality, there are
many attributes and facilities which does not require any personnel to perform
the operation, this affects the guest-host relationship because hospitality
now focuses on the services delivered instead of interactions with the guest. Furthermore, the service provided extended
from servicing guest in the room to cruise, airline and tour. Hence, the
service now is delivered through a group of people instead of one party alone.
In conclusion, this video shows that classical Rome
hospitality and present day hospitality share a lot of similarities. But, there
are also difference between them, for example, the way they deliver their
services and the facilities, which are shown in the video.
