Popplet

The approach that we have used: Holistic Approach
This is because we think that we should look at things as a whole and not just focus on finding a solution to tackle the main cause, which is just the notion or just one side of the problem. Although atomistic approach allows us to eliminate factors that we decided are not directly causing the problem, the cause/question that we had chosen might not be the real cause of the problem thus we chose holistic approach. Other causes may contribute significantly to the problem. Hence, we have chosen the holistic approach as if we focus on one, it will not strengthen our stand. Their main aim is to inform their guests about their safety and emphasise to them the Dos and Don’ts in the plane. In addition, they provide personal services like what the FNB does.

  • Half of our blog uses secondary sources
  • Other half uses primary sources
Secondary sources:

  • Consist of 2 videos

  • Reason: Very relevant and supports our stand of the driving question.
Primary sources:

  • Consist of facilitator''s knowledge/interview
  • Interview with Financial controller in hotel.
  • Our prior knowledge and pictures of our travelling experience
  • Reason: Make our blog more comprehensive

Stands

I agree to a certain extent of the notion of hospitality in today’s hospitality industry. In the past, classical Rome invite people into their home and they start out as being strangers, to guests and then become friends. This is known as guest-host relationship. Hospitality back then was a selfless act which was filled with sincerity. Guests being the receiver of such a warm act does not have any demands but gladly accept whatever which was offered and they are not required to offer anything in-return. The guest host relationship that they build through was sincerity. However, in today society, guest have to pay for the service, because of this guest have demand and standard to be met. Thus, the guest host relationship is built through the whether the standard and demand has been met.
In conclusion, classical Rome hospitality and present hospitality do still maintain the concept of guest host relationship. But, they are built through different way. Hence, I agree to the notion to a certain extent.

We do not totally agree that Classical Rome Hospitality is different from now. This is because in the past, the host will welcome people to their place, provide food, comfortable place to stay, charming company and entertainment. And now, hospitality also do provide such services. But because things are more advanced now, hence it may seem from what is from the past.

I agree to some extent regarding the driving question of today's hospitality industry. Although the present hospitality industry is different in both service and standards, it still has the same basic foundation from the past hospitality: which is the build up of the relationship between a guest and a host. In the past, hospitality was regarded as a personal act, and guests, whether strangers or friends are both welcomed to the host's house to enjoy the occasion, this hence will determine the host's social standing. This can be seen in the present hospitality industry, where guests or customers stays or uses the facilities/place in the industry and the ratings and comments given by them determines the industry's place. Hence, although the present hospitality industry today has changed in variety due to modernisation and requires more demands and services, it still has the basic foundation of the past hospitality of building a relationship between a guest and host. Thus, I agree to some extent to the above notion on the hospitality industry of then and now.
-Yvette

I myself agree to the notion to a certain extend. I agree to the notion which in the past, classical Rome invite people into their home and they start out as being strangers, to guests and then become friends. This is known as guest-host relationship. I honestly feel that if the classical rome ancient did not existed there will not be hospitality of today. Generation do change, things do change nothing is impossible to stay the same. Thus I feel that although today’s hospitality value are more toward earning money, but everyone still start out with people inviting a guest and providing service to them and still we start out being strangers and then to friends. It is just the trust that has changed, people back then trust each other more compared to today, we are more defensive and not so out going so we doesn’t invite people to our house instead we provide service to them as a service provider in a certain professional job scope.
